Areas of Expertise: Ceramics
Melody Ellis teaches Ceramics I at Â鶹Æƽâ°æ, introducing both novice and experienced makers to clay with an approach that opens minds to new ways of thinking and working.
Originally from Pennsylvania, she received a BFA in Ceramics at Tyler School of Art. Ellis completed apprenticeships at The Fabric Workshop & Museum in Philadelphia and at Moravian Pottery & Tileworks in Doylestown, PA before moving into solo studio practice. Ellis has exhibited nationally and internationally and has ceramic pieces in a number of public and private collections. She has conducted workshops in Texas, Missouri, Illinois, and New York, as well as curating and jurying exhibitions across the U.S. Ellis has also worked with children and teens through The Clay Studio’s traveling Claymobile, the Girl Scouts, and elementary, middle, and high schools around the country.
Ellis is primarily a ceramic artist but enjoys incorporating found materials into her pieces, exploring small format figure and tile work built from disparate elements. She employs a variety of assembling methods to create lively pieces with layered surfaces on earthenware clay.
